Additional Skills
  • CCSH credential. This specialty training in clinical sleep health education allows me to work as a sleep health consultant to individuals, as a sleep educator in public arenas or in a physician extender role in the sleep clinic environment, where I can maintain relationships with patients requiring long-term therapy, post diagnosis, once it has been established. 
  • Conference planning background. I organized much of the 2014 Washington State Sleep Society conference and two writers’ conferences for Field's End. Tasks included developing workshops (concept to final program), speaker acquisition for keynote/opening addresses, overseeing registration, managing hospitality, working with local business and organizing volunteers and vendors. In 2011, I also advised the Richard Hugo House writers’ conference.
  • Social media engagement. I have skills in nationwide social networking, knowledge of SEO basics and experience building and maintaining sites and blogs. I actively use Twitter through Hootsuite client.
  • Advocacy. I am an activist for Multiple Sclerosis research and awareness. I work with national podcasters/MS activists Deanna Kirkpatrick, Stuart Schlossman and Amy Gurowitz to admin the Multiple Sclerosis Unplugged Facebook group (about 12,000 members). 
  • Diversity in writing skills. I have written marketing copy (fliers, newsletters, promotional content), "soft" articles (human interest features), "hard" articles (interpretive), handbooks, educational/process materials, fiction and poetry, blog content, microblog content (“tweets”), technical manuscripts and business correspondence. My particular strengths: simplifying technical subjects for general audiences, and generating text that is accessible to the average reader. 
  • Editing strengths. I work well with individuals and groups to refine, simplify and clarify work. I have familiarity with style guides, can generate unique style guides and/or follow in-house style.
  • Organization and focus. I’m a good time manager and understand priority setting and deadlines.
  • Public presentation skills. I have coordinated, paneled, hosted and/or presented seminars and enjoy public speaking (most recently for the Washington State Sleep Society for AAST CEUs).
